Many thanks to everyone that contributed to the Easter Square Draw, which was organised by our School Association Members.

The draw was held this morning with the 27 prize winners drawn out of the hat by pupils, parents and staff. All prize winners received Body Shop products.

A big thank you goes to our School Association members for their continued support to the school.

14/03/16 - Year 8 Easter Cookery

Year 8 Pupils enjoying their Easter practical work in Home Economics.
09/03/15 - Year 11 Work Experience 2016

Year 11 pupils spent last week on Work Experience as part of the school CEIAG (Careers Education, Information, Advice & Guidance) programme. Vice Principal & CEIAG Co-ordinator Mr Cousins travelled around the country visiting pupils and taking some action photos as shown below. More photographs can be found on the gallery section of this website.

Work experience provides an excellent opportunity for pupils to sample a possible career path and also gain some valuable knowledge and experience in that area. All pupils really enjoyed the week and this will be an experience that they will never forget.
09/03/16 – Easter Square Draw

Every family was recently issued with an Easter Square Draw sheet (click on link below) and encouraged to sell 12 squares at £2 each. All sold squares will then be entered into a draw for a chance to win Body Shop products. There will be 1 prize (worth £12) for every 12 squares sold with the remaining £12 profit going towards school funds.

The Square Draw will take place during an extended break on the last day of our Spring Term (Tuesday 22nd March), therefore we are asking that all sheets and money should be returned on or before Monday 21st March.

Thank you in anticipation of your support.
09/03/16 – Year 8 Hockey Update

Our Year 8 girls recently travelled to Newry Hockey Club to participate in a round robin tournament featuring Newry High, Tandragee Junior High and City of Armagh High.

The day got off to a great start with a 5-1 win over Newry High before a scoreless draw with City of Armagh High. In the deciding game, the Newtown girls led 1-0 against Tandragee Junior High but failed to hold their advantage as Tandragee hit back with 2 late goals resulting in a tournament win for City of Armagh High. Special mention must go to Dinah Park (pictured right) who scored 5 goals in the 3 matches.

Well done to Coach Miss L Anderson and her squad of Nicole Bailie, Ruby Blackwood, Chloe Courtney, Leona Cranston, Lauren Gibson, Ellen Hughes, Madison McKnight, Dinah Park, Abbie Patton, Sophie Straughan, Alice Whyte & Andrea Whyte.
04/03/16 - World Book Day @ Newtown High School!

The fantastic book covers created by 8X and 9X, for the C2K Newsdesk Design a Book Cover Competition, were put on display in the foyer as we celebrated World Book Day! During their English class 9X watched the Special World Book Day Programme created by the C2K Newsdesk. This programme featured a ‘Recommended Reads’ section and the work of C.S. Lewis and a selection of other authors were showcased. 9X then voted online for the book that had appealed to them the most. We were also delighted to see that the awarding winning work of Faith Hughes and Claire Stephenson was also included in this programme.

We certainly hope that Laura Nesbitt, from Cortamlet Primary School, enjoys spending the book token that she was recently presented with. Mrs Simms, the School Librarian, ran a competition in the Library on Open Night and Laura was selected as the winner. Well done Laura!
01/03/16 - Celebrating World Book Day!

To celebrate World Book Day, on 3rd March 2016, KS3 pupils entered a Book Cover Design Competition organised by the C2K Newsdesk. This competition required pupils to design a book cover for either an existing or imaginary book. The standard of work produced by Mrs Robinson’s Year 8 and Year 9 English classes was excellent and will be on display in the foyer of the school on World Book Day. Two very talented pupils were awarded joint 1st out of 450 entries! Faith Hughes and Claire Stephenson should be very proud of themselves! The Newsdesk Editor, David Huntley, travelled to our school and presented the two girls with certificates and C2K Newsdesk goodie bags. Mr Huntley was very impressed by the standard of all entries and stated that nine of the school entries were in the top ten! Well done to all pupils who participated in this competition.
