27/09/13 - New Canteen Open for Business
After a frantic few days of applying finishing touches, cleaning and preparation, our new school canteen opened its doors for business on Friday 27 September. A steady stream of customers passed through as both pupils and staff were keen to get a look (nosey) at the new state of the art facilities.

All pupils and staff gathered in the new canteen during morning break as Principal Mr G Mullan wished Mrs Sharon Porter and her team every success in the new building.

Parents are friends of Newtownhamilton High will soon get an opportunity to view the facilities through a number of proposed events over the coming months - further details to follow.
Out with the old and in with the new - Year 11 pupil Thomas Mitchell (pictured left) was the last person to be served in the old canteen by Mrs R Porter on Thursday 26 September while Year 8 pupil Amy McIlveen (pictured centre) was at the front of the queue when the new canteen opened the following day. Meanwhile, Year 8 pupils Rebekah McLean and Jenna Corkey (pictured right) were impressed with the new facilities as they enjoyed their morning break.

12/09/13 - Year 8 Induction Trip to Omagh

Our new Year 8 pupils travelled to the Ulster American Folk Park in Omagh on Tuesday 10 September as part of their induction programme.

The year group was split into 4 smaller groups which travelled around the various sights within the park. Pupils got the opportunity to participate in tasks that their ancestors would have had to do as part of daily routine many years ago. What a great educational experience and also an opportunity to make new friends during the day.

Thanks to staff members Mrs E Faria, Mr N Megaw, Mrs S Coyle and Mrs B McNiece for providing supervision on the day.
10/09/13 - Return of Trophies

2012 Prize Winners are asked to return all cups and shields to the school as soon as possible so that they can be engraved and cleaned for Prize Night in November.

Pictured is Ashley Henry with trophies that she was awarded during the 2012 Prize Night celebrations.
02/09/13 - Building Update

Our impressive new canteen is nearing completion with workmen working long hours during recent days. The majority of the internal work is now completed with only electrical applicances (cookers, fridges etc) to be installed. Outside the canteen, work continues on paving, access for deliveries and car parking.

Meanwhile, 2 other maintenance projects have been ongoing during the summer months. A new ceiling with improved heating and lighting has been installed in the assembly hall while the football pitch has undergone some major work to improve drainage and has also been reseeded.

As work on all the above projects comes to an end, special thanks must go to Caretaker Mr R Gibson and his team of cleaning staff for their hard work and patience during construction.
02/09/13 - First Day for Year 8 @ NHS

Today, saw the arrival of 39 Year 8 pupils for their first day at Newtownhamilton High School. Despite nerves and excitement, pupils quickly settled down to work as part of the Young Enterprise Induction Programme. Some of our Acting Prefects were on hand to provide support during these fun ice-breaker activities.

A tour of the school building followed the Induction Programme while pupils had an opportunity to spend time with their Form Teachers after lunch. Overall, an action packed first day at Newtownhamilton High.
Welcome to NHS Year 8
