20/12/11 - Community Carol Service & Cake Display
The annual Community Carol Service took place today in St. John's Parish Church, Newtownhamilton. Pupils from Cortamlet, Drumhillery and Newtownhamilton Primary schools attended the service and contributed with musical items and Bible readings. The Newtownhamilton High School Choir also sang two pieces.
After the service, many of the large congregation made their way to the Home Economics department in Newtownhamilton High School for refreshments and also to view the 43 Christmas cakes that had been baked by the Year 10 pupils.
Principal Mr G Mullan then had the unenviable task of selecting the top 3 cakes. After considerable time, he eventually came to a decision which will be announced during assembly in the New Year. Pictured below are some of the entries on display.

The prize winners were:
Andrew Watt (8A)
Elizabeth Blackwood (10X)
Caroline McBride (10X)
Amy Warnock (10X)
Jodie Riddle (11X)
All prize winners received a £5 book voucher and a certificate of commendation.
All entries will now be forwarded on to the Puffin Book Competition which Cathy Cassidy will judge. Well-done to all pupils who participated in our School competition.

Huge thanks must be given to everyone who visited the stall and supported our efforts to celebrate and promote literacy within Newtownhamilton High School.
