Every Child An Important Child
It is not every day that a former British & Irish Lions Captain calls into Newtownhamilton High School for a spot of lunch but that is exactly what happened today when Rory Best took a well-deserved break from his ‘Miles 2 Mayo’ fundraising challenge for Cancer Fun for Children.

From the 8th–17th September, during Childhood Cancer Awareness month, Rory will walk 180 miles across Ireland and hopes to raise over £500,000 for the charity and made his way through Newtownhamilton village as part of his journey to Mayo. As he approached the school, our pupils were there to greet and cheer him on as he made his way into the school grounds before enjoying lunch which was kindly prepared by our canteen staff. Rory then took time to have selfies taken with our pupils before proceeding on with his journey in the direction of Keady.

A big thank you to everyone who has contributed to our Cancer Fund for Children collection buckets. These buckets will remain in school until early next week so it is not too late to still make a contribution. Alternatively, donations can be made via the ‘Rory’s Miles 2 Mayo’ JustGiving page on https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/rorysmiles2mayo

Finally, a big thank you to both Mrs Laverty and Mrs Hendren for the organisation of this event.

Best wishes Rory and team for the remainder of your travels.
