January Football results:

U14 League

St Paul’s Bessbrook 3 – 1 Newtownhamilton

The U14s took the lead in the game with a swift counter attack and good through ball from Jake Robinson to release William McNiece to finish smartly in the corner. Three goals conceded from set pieces gave St Paul’s the victory in the end.

U13 NI Cup

Newtownhamilton 0 – 3 Rathfriland

The U13 team put up a brave fight against last winners of the NI cup but unfortunately could not get a foothold in the game. Newtown rallied in the second half but Rathfriland scored some excellent goals to put the match out of reach.

U15 NI Cup

Newtownhamilton 0 – 0 Rathfriland (AET)

Newtown win 4-2 on penalties.

This match was played straight after the U13 game so it was difficult to play on the pitch. The game was evenly matched and both defences held firm with only a few clear-cut chances between both teams. No goals in extra time meant that the match went to the dreaded penalty kicks. Jamie McGurgan, Alistair Watt, Jake Robinson and Harry Hamilton all despatched their spot kicks and the hero of day was James McBride as he made a tremendous save to ensure the holders are in the hat for the next round.
