Digital Technology at Newtownhamilton High School
Information and Communication Technology (Digital Technology) is an exciting and fun subject which is taught in Room 4 by Mrs Ferris. The school is very well-equipped in terms of ICT with all classrooms having a new panel board installed. The computer room has recently been refurbished and now has 24 computers. Pupils also have access to digital cameras, webcams, voice recorders, microphones and headphones.
Key Stage 3
In Years 8–10, pupils have two discrete Digital Technology periods per week. As well as developing keyboarding, spreadsheet and database skills we are now also incorporating the use of multimedia, including powerpoints, photoshop, video conferencing, gaming and website design.

Key Stage 4
At this stage pupils can opt for a GCSE in Digital Technology Route A Multimedia. With this qualification, students may choose to progress to CCEA GCE Digital Technology, GCE Software Systems Development or a related qualification. This GCSE also helps to equip students for a career in a multitude of industries, such as digital media, mobile development, cyber security, cloud computing and managing big data.
Following Route A students will complete three units of work as follows:
Unit 1: Digital Technology (studied in Year 11 with written examination in the summer term (30%)
Unit 2: Digital Authoring Concepts (studied in Year 12 with written examination in the summer term (40%)
Unit 3: Digital Authoring Practice (Controlled Assessment Tasks completed in Year 12 (30%)
